My Story

Two Contrasting Births in Two Countries.

My first birth was an amazing water birth experience at a birth center. However, my transition into motherhood was far from smooth. I learned first hand how difficult and lonely it can be to be postpartum in our culture. Before my baby's first birthday, we moved to Amsterdam, The Netherlands, where I began my Doula journey. For my second baby, I planned a home water lotus birth. However, I woke up one morning to the realization that something was terribly wrong. We rushed with my midwife to the hospital where my son was born via cesarean section due to placental abruption. I was so amazed by the postpartum support in Holland and how different it was to birth in this culture. Although the birth was not what we planned, the community came together to bring us everything we needed. Having these two contrasting experiences helped me to realize my dreams for offering Doula support services AND childbirth education to growing families in Maryland.

Doula and Childbirth Educator Journey

I grew up as the daughter of a midwife. I went with my mother into the Amish and Mennonite communities where she attended and supported women. I grew up learning that birth and breastfeeding was normal. While I lived in Amsterdam, I began training to be a birth Doula and met amazing birth workers and advocates in Holland. After I moved back to Maryland, I earned my certification as a Birth Boot Camp Instructor (BBCI) and offer a range of classes for parents and families to help feel empowered for their amazing birth. I am passionate about supporting those on the journey into parenthood. Each new, unique birth experience tests us as supporters and community members to listen and hold space for new chapters and the lives that are changed by birth.
